Saturday, December 6, 2008, - 8:00pm
Bellefield Hall Auditorium,
University of Pittsburgh

Five flamenco artists from the birth place of flamenco - Andalucia in Southern Spain.

Two of the artists are from gypsy families where the flamenco art form originated - dancer Carmen Cortes and singer Jesus Mendez from Jerez de la Frontera.

One phenomenal flamenco guitarist Gerardo Nuñez. Absolutely one of the best guitarists in the Universe.

This is the real raw and authentic flamenco coming direct from southern Spain. Unadorned flamenco in all its passionate driving rhythmic and soulful glory.

Gerardo Nuñez guitarrista from Jerez
Carmen Cortes bailaora from Jerez
Rafael de Utrera cantaor from Sevilla
Jesus Mendez cantaor from Jerez
Juan Manuel Lucas percussionist from Malaga

Gerardo Nuñez is a virtuoso flamenco guitarist and versatile composer, his music is a complex and rich juxtaposition of traditional and modern flamenco. Rhythm and Melody are the pillars upon which Nuñez weaves many musical influences. From traditional flamenco, classical music, and jazz he creates some of current flamenco’s most astonishing and musically satisfying works. Nuñez is truly a master of the guitar and the flamenco art form. Experts, historians, musicologists all agree that his music will stand the test of time and his technique and musicianship has to be experienced to be believed.
